Technician opportunity
Intrapology is a queer sci-fi series that takes the form of interactive online shows that combine theatre and games, for audiences that are excluded from in-person venues due to disability, chronic illness, or geography. Our shows are powered by our own original software, Intrinsink. Our first season is funded by a Project Grant from Arts Council England, and we performed our first two episodes in late 2024.
We are looking for two technicians: one who can run our online streams using OBS, and one who will operate Intrinsink to ensure the script and cues keep time with actors. Both will work under our technical director, and in dialogue with other project leaders.
Pay
We have a budget of £400 per episode available for each technician.
Objectives
- Support technical rehearsals and live performances, with around 10 hours of direct engagement per performance.
- Minimise latency - this is a high priority, due to the interactive nature of the performances.
- Support actors with technical advice on sound and lighting, as well as contributing to smooth operation of software.
- Support access features such as integrated captions and sign language interpretation.
- Build workflows that reflect our research into the environmental impact of our way of working, focused on the emissions resulting from video streaming
- Where possible, help us to increase our use of open-source software, and interoperability with a variety of services, including indieweb and the Fediverse
Required skills
We’re looking for a new stream technician, who:
- Is experienced with streaming and/or remote events
- Uses OBS, ideally familiar with some of its more advanced features
- Knows how to handle sound issues that we often face, such as: consistent volume across multiple video call sources, avoiding echo during hybrid performances
We're also looking for a technician to operate our software Intrinsink during live performances. This is functionally similar to operating Qlab - the main concern is keeping time with actors, so that subtitles and script cues change at the right time. This is to provide cover for a technician who is not available for our dates in June and July.
We're generally keen to work with people who:
- Have a connection to at least one of the communities that we need to reach: games streaming, disability arts, at-home theatre, etc.
- Can navigate communication in neurodiverse creative teams, or more broadly, have some experience working across cultural differences.
- Face barriers to in-person arts and culture venues due to chronic illness, disability, or geography.

Motivations and priorities
- A flourishing culture of networked live art that centres people who have been let down by the illusory “return to normal”: disabled, chronically ill, and neurodivergent people, as well as people who face other barriers to in-person venues such as geographic inequality.
- Anti-racist and decolonial worlding, neuroqueering, and solidarity with all oppressed people.
- Sustainable technology, frugal computing, indieweb, open source, right to repair, keeping the web free, and pursuing the dream of permacomputing. Fuck blockchain, fuck Web3, fuck “AI”.
